As a designer and photographer, I am constantly exploring the conceptual connections between light, space and motion. I desire to investigate the visual impressions and effects light, space, and motion have upon a setting. My work often involves questioning my viewer's perspective on these elements in relation to the landscape and our grasp on reality. I strive to evoke questions concerning individual perceptions, which are typically considered private, of viewing public space. I examine the contrast of what it means to view the world publicly versus privately, as well as the rules of objectification in regards to the surrounding physical world. I encourage innovative notions regarding the landscape by creating images that use a combination of slightly out of focus images and long exposure times, I accentuate the effect and interaction of motion on light, and how they effect spatial perception. I also inspect how light affects the appearance of the landscapes' spatial qualities. I am interested in turning conventional landscapes into mystical scenes of unfamiliarity. I work towards creating an aura of eerie serenity of unawareness in order to induce feelings associated with voyeurism and intrusion. My intention is by creating a sense of invasion in the images, like a voyeur spying on his subject, the viewer will start to think about the ownership and objectification of the landscape. I hope by viewing the landscape in the same regard that consumers view products, my audience will reexamine their private perceptions of the public landscape and begin to rethink the typical devaluation of the landscape. My overall goal as an artist is to encourage the viewer to reinvent their perceptions of the world around them through aesthetically pleasing, critically designed images. Thank you for looking. Sincerely,
